Mother's day

Mother's Day is a day that honours mothers and motherhood. The celebration of mother's day is usually on May, although it is not an actual international day, and each country has its own date. Furthermore, for most countries it is a moving holiday, as for example in US where it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May each year.

The celebration of mother's day as we know it today originates in the United States. Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia, created mothers' day in 1908 in order to accomplish her mother's dream of making a celebration for all mothers. 6 years later, the day had received such support and publicity throughout the country, that President Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914.

Although many other countries already had their own mothers day, the united states tradition influenced the larger part of the world. On this day, people are expected to present a gift to their mother, usually flowers, accompanied with a card.
